Chris Devonshire-Ellis
Chris Devonshire-Ellis is the founder of Dezan Shira & Associates, a foreign direct investment advisory firm established in 1992, which now maintain offices in Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and India. The firm specialises in accounting, tax, corporate establishment and payroll. Previous to establishing the firm, Chris worked in Asia working for firms including Asia Law & Practice and the international law firm Mossack Fonseca, where he gained experience in corporate establishment, business development and publishing.
Chris founded the Asia Briefing publishing house in 1999. The publishing house is responsible for the publication of a number of Asia business news sites and magazines, including China-Briefing.com and 2point6billion.com. It also publishes a wide variety of business guides and regional guides, aimed at those undertaking foreign investment in Asia. Chris has been responsible for the editing of a number of thetechnical and regional guides, and has also had his own books published, including a travel guide to Mongolia.
Chris stepped down from his position as managing partner of the China Practice in 2007 and now heads the firm's India practice, based in Delhi and Mumbai. He is heavily involved in the legal, tax and operational issues affecting multinationals operating in South East Asia.
Chris is an elected member of the United Nations Development Programme business advisory council for North East Asia, called the Greater Tumen Initiative, which aims to foster economic cooperation between China, Russia, Mongolia, North Korea, and South Korea – with Japan as an observing member.
