Hanoi Announces Road Closures Ahead of National Day Parade
Hanoi authorities have announced extensive road closures, partial bans, and traffic restrictions from August 21 to September 2, 2025, to facilitate parades, rehearsals, and celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).
In Hanoi, celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day will feature a grand ceremony, military parade, and march beginning at 6:30 a.m. on September 2 at Ba Dinh Square, proceeding through several central streets.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, the event will involve around 30,000 participants, excluding parade and marching contingents. The capital will also host fireworks displays at five locations on the evening of September 2: Hoan Kiem Lake, Thong Nhat Park, Van Quan Lake, My Dinh National Stadium, and West Lake.

Hanoi police urge public transport use during National Day celebrations
Hanoi’s police have advised residents and visitors from other provinces attending the National Day anniversary events to prioritize public transport, particularly passenger buses and the city’s metro system, including:
- Metro Line 2A (Cat Linh – Ha Dong): running from Yen Nghia Station (Ha Dong Ward) to Cat Linh Station (O Cho Dua Ward); and
- Metro Line 3 (Nhon – Hanoi Station): operating from Nhon Station (Tay Tuu Ward) to Cau Giay Station (Giang Vo Ward).
Participants are also encouraged to walk along certain streets in Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam, Hai Ba Trung, Giang Vo, and Ngoc Ha wards, as well as around Ba Dinh Square.
Authorities emphasized that people should follow the directions of security forces, remain on sidewalks, and avoid crowding or spilling onto the streets, which could disrupt marching formations, parades, and ceremonial processions.
Diplomatic missions in Hanoi implement office closure
Vietnam’s National Day holidays this year will run from August 30 to September 2. Civil servants and public employees will get a four-day break, starting Saturday, August 30, and ending Tuesday, September 2, which combines two official holidays with the regular weekend.
Many embassies in Hanoi have announced office closures due to road and traffic restrictions for National Day preparations on August 21. Since the same security measures will be in place in the coming days, there will likely be more notices about office closures from diplomatic missions in Hanoi leading up to the main parade day. Those who need consular support should watch for updates from their embassies, which can be easily found on social media and their official websites.
