The LCL services will link Ho Chi Minh City with Hamburg, Germany; Genoa, Italy; and Los Angeles, United States. According to the company, both corporate and individual clients will be able to ship goods up to the size of a 40-foot ocean freight container.

The service will run once a week from Vietnam and reflects the country’s top three export destinations. Last year, Hamburg and Genoa received US$12.2 billion worth of Vietnamese goods while the United States bought US$11.86 billion reported Vietnam News.

“In the highly competitive business landscape, companies are faced with the challenge of responding more quickly to customer demands,” Amadou Diallo, chief executive officer, DHL Global Forwarding, South Asia Pacific said in a statement. “Our direct LCL services offer cost-efficient solutions that meet customers’ needs, and support the healthy trade between Vietnam and Germany, Italy and the United States.”

Vietnam remains an attractive FDI destination because of its population and potential as a largely untapped  market in the region. Its export industry is resilient despite the global economic crisis. One of its strongest markets is the garment and apparel-related  industry which amounted to US$10 billion for the first half of the year.
