Aug. 25 – Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Information and Communications encouraged the use of digital signatures for government agencies and companies during a workshop held in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday.

The use of digital signature will pave the way for the development of electronic commerce in the country. “One of the solutions to ensure data security in e-transactions is the use of digital signatures,” said Tran Huu Linh, deputy head of the Department of Commerce and Information and Technology.

“An unsecured network is one of the obstacles hindering the development of e-commerce among enterprises,” Linh added.

The country’s e-transaction industry is expected to grow as the internet becomes more readily available to more people. It is forecast that Vietnamese internet users will reach 45 million to 50 million by 2012.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has issued public digital-signature authentication licenses to the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group, Military Telecom Group, BKAV Network Security Company, NacenComm Technologies Joint-Stock Company and FPT Information System Corporation.

Digital signatures were first used in Vietnam in 2006 by Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Post and Telecommunications for transactions.
