Hanoi Petitions for Additional US$144.5 Million for Anniversary Projects

Dec. 10 – The Hanoi People’s Committee is requesting for an additional VND2.6 trillion (US$144.5 million) for projects slated for the city’s 1000th anniversary next year.

The city has 34 projects lined up of this kind with nine of those already completed that includes: The Hanoi Library, the statue of King Le Thai To, the August Revolution Square, The Elite Sports Training Centre, Kim Lien – O Cho Dua road, Vinh Tuy bridge and Lac Long Quan road.

Most of the projects are lagging behind schedule because of limited capability investors, poor consulting, and site clearance in addition bearing the brunt of the global economic crisis.

According to Vietnam Net, the Thanh Tri bridge, the belt road No.3, Doi Can West Lake road, Road 32, Nguyen Phong Sac road to name a few are under urgent construction.

Other projects like the the Highway 5, the belt road No.2, Buoi and Cau Giay traffic islands, Vietnam-Korea Technical Worker Training School, Tuoi Tre Park, Tay Mo vocational training school complex, O Dong Mac – Nguyen Khoai road, O Cho Dua – Hoang Cau road and the Thang Long Tower may not meet deadlines.
