Sept. 17 – The Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange has announced it would join the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Bulletin Board, a pending single trading bourse that will include 30 stocks each from six Asian exchanges.

So far, the Singaporean, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai and Philippines Stock Exchanges have agreed to join the bourse. The Financial Times reports that the bulletin board would have a market capitalization of more than US$1,000 billion and would route orders from brokers directly to the local exchanges.

The bourse is backed by the ASEAN and the Asian Development Bank to increase interest on ASEAN stocks and promote it as a distinct class of stock. The exchange would also give investors a single trading point. ADB officials have told the Financial Times that individually, Asian exchanges are too small to attract global attention but with a combined bourse they could achieve greater scale and liquidity.
