Jul. 20 – The southwestern province of Tay Ninh has canceled 22 investment project licenses for the Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone hampered by delays.

Phan Minh Thanh, the head of the zone’s management board, told Thanh Nien News that some of the projects had problems with capital shortages while others were  delayed because land for investors were still not handed over by the Ben Cau District Site Clearance Committee.

The Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone is located at the border with Cambodia has inadequate infrastructure thus making it harder for investors to do business.

The capital of the province Tay Ninh is around 90 kilometers northwest of Ho Chi Minh City.

According to media reports last June, the visitors to the zone dropped when several supermarkets closed down because regulations on selling duty-free goods were changed and locals and tourists were no longer allowed to purchase goods duty-free at the zone.

Previously, visitors to the zone were allowed to buy 500,000 dong of goods per person daily per day then lowered to 500,000 dong per person per week.
