Jul. 13 – The American state of  Maryland will soon establish an economic development office in Vietnam.

The office will be managed by the Meiwah International Holdings, an importer-exporter company, that will be charging fees by commission and seeking out business opportunities for the state in Vietnam.

Previously, the state  set-up recruitment offices in South Korean and India in addition to having global business hubs in other countries.

In 2008, Maryland sold more than US$22 million worth of goods and services to the country while also importing more than US$65 million.

“We looked very closely at Vietnam’s growing economy and are confident that having a presence there will enable us to tap into the tremendous potential for partnerships with Vietnamese companies, as well as encourage investment in Maryland,” Department of Business and Economic Development Secretary Christian S. Johansson was quoted by the Baltimore Business Journal.
