May 7 – The General Secretary of the United Nation Conference of Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said that Vietnam was considered an example in foreign direct investment attraction, reports VNA.

The UNCTAD General Secretary Supachai Pamitchpakdi said that Vietnam’s experiences in FDI attraction should be introduced to other countries. The comments were made during a talk with the Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc in Geneva last May 4.

The official confirmed that UNCTAD will continue to support Vietnam in developing its investment environment and said that FDI commitments to the country would continue.

Mr. Supachai said Vietnam’s economic foundation is good and suffers less from the impact of the global financial crisis than other countries.

He also added UNCTAD’s support to a closer regional economic linkage, particularly among those in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
