About Vietnam’s import and export data

Data in these tables was accessed via Vietnam’s customs portal March 16, 2023.

January 2023

Vietnam’s total import-export turnover in January was US$46.5 billion down from US$56.3 billion in December. This may have been partly due to the week-long Lunar New Year holiday. There may also be some carry-over from December in which manufacturing orders were down due to greater global challenges (See also: Vietnamese Garment Makers Hit Snag).

So, in January, what did Vietnam export and to where, and what did it import and from where?

What were Vietnam’s main imports?

In January, Vietnam’s top three imports were: computers, electronic products, spare parts and components; machinery, equipment, tools, and instruments; and other products. These three imports set Vietnam back a collective US$10.5 billion. This was about a quarter of Vietnam’s exports by value.
