Apr. 20 – Vietnam and Laos have agreed to develop the Vung Ang Port located in central Vietnam’s Ha Tinh Province.

The Vietnam-Laos Vung Ang Port Joint Stock Company will manage improvements made on the port. The endeavor will make it easier to ship goods from Laos and help develop the East-West Economic Corridor for trade.

The Vung Ang Port is strategically located nearby overseas marine routes, major highways and railways as well as being near Quang Binh Province. The port also has a huge industrial zone with oil refinery and steel production facilities.

The port’s scope is divided into three areas:

  • Area No.1 is two provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh in Vietnam
  • Area No.2 is two provinces of Khamuon and Savanaket in Laos
  • Area No.3 is the northeast provinces of Thailand

Operational since 2001, the port has an average depth of 10 meters to 15 meters and is able to accommodate 50,000 DWT ships plus two wharfs with a total length of 457.5 meters.
