Vietnam has emerged as a cornerstone of Adidas’s global manufacturing network, supported by a dense ecosystem of large-scale contract manufacturers and an extensive subcontracting base.

As of January 2026, Adidas’ supply chain footprint spans Vietnam, with a concentration in the southern region, reflecting a long-established local supply chain supported by specialized expertise and a supportive logistics network.

Vietnam anchors Adidas’ global sourcing strategy

Vietnam remains the largest sourcing base for Adidas, accounting for 27 percent of total production volume in 2025, underscoring its central role in the company’s global manufacturing network.

Key highlights include:

  • Footwear dominance: Vietnam contributes 41 percent of Adidas’ global footwear output, making it the company’s most important production base for this segment.
  • Strong apparel position: The country ranks as the second-largest apparel producer, accounting for 18 percent of global output.
  • Structural supply chain role: Vietnam has evolved beyond a “China+1” alternative into a core pillar of Adidas’ global sourcing strategy, supported by established supplier ecosystems and scalable production capacity.

Together, these factors position Vietnam not just as a cost-efficient manufacturing location, but as a strategically embedded node in Adidas’ global supply chain.

Where is Adidas’ supply chain located?

Adidas’ supply chain in Vietnam is anchored by primary suppliers, which maintain direct contractual relationships with the company and are responsible for producing finished goods. These firms form the core manufacturing backbone, while subcontractors serve as a secondary layer, supporting capacity and specialization.

The majority of Adidas’ primary suppliers are concentrated in southern Vietnam, particularly:

  • Ho Chi Minh City
  • Dong Nai
  • Tay Ninh

Why does Adidas manufacture in southern Vietnam?

Vietnam’s biggest port system

The Cai Mep–Thi Vai Port primarily functions as Vietnam’s international gateway port, with around 96 percent of container throughput linked to the country’s own import-export activities rather than transshipment.

For Adidas, this has direct implications for its Vietnam supply chain: the port operates as a highly efficient export channel for domestically manufactured goods, particularly from southern production hubs such as Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai.

A key node is the Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT), which handled over 2.2 million TEUs in 2025, accounting for roughly 31 percent of the regional market share. Its digitalized e-Port system, covering more than 90 percent of gate procedures, has reduced processing time by about 30 percent and increased equipment utilization by 25 percent, thereby enhancing throughput efficiency.

With 12 international shipping routes linking over 50 global ports, TCIT connects southern industrial clusters and the Mekong Delta directly to major markets. This logistics backbone enables Adidas to maintain high-volume, time-efficient exports from Vietnam to global distribution networks.

Experienced, low-cost labor

As a textile and garment manufacturing hub, southern Vietnam, has developed a relatively high-skilled workforce in the manufacture of garments and textiles. This labor is also low-cost providing vast benefits to companies making garments in the Southeast Asian nation.

The expanded Ho Chi Minh City, now encompassing Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau after the recent provicial merger, has become Vietnam’s largest population center, with over 14 million residents, ensuring a deep and readily available labor pool for manufacturing activities.

  • Strong infrastructure connectivity, including highways and logistics zones

Emerging secondary hubs

Adidas’ supply chain has expanded beyond the south into several key regions:

  • North-central Vietnam: Thanh Hoa and Nghe An
  • Mekong Delta: Vinh Long and Dong Thap
  • Northern provinces: Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, and Hai Phong

These areas host both footwear and apparel factories, reflecting a geographic diversification strategy aimed at:

  • Reducing over-reliance on southern hubs
  • Leveraging lower labor costs in emerging provinces
  • Expanding capacity amid rising global demand

Large apparel manufacturers such as Regina Miracle (11,306 workers) highlight Vietnam’s growing role in higher-value garment production.

Accessories and gear: Supporting segments

Accessories and sporting goods are present but smaller in scale, typically:

  • Located near major clusters
  • Integrated into existing supplier ecosystems
  • Serving as complementary production lines
