Vietnam is a sportswear and sports equipment manufacturing powerhouse, of which Nike has been a key player. Here’s where Nike’s factories in Vietnam are located and why they’re there.

On November 11, 2025, Swedish textile recycling company Syre announced a new partnership with Nike to establish the first large-scale textile recycling plant in Vietnam. This plant, referred to as ‘gigascale’ for its ability to process tens of thousands of tonnes of textile waste each year, is slated to begin construction in 2027, marking a significant milestone for sustainable manufacturing in Vietnam.

The collaboration between Syre and Nike is particularly significant because Vietnam is currently Nike’s largest global supplier, with 180 factories employing nearly 500,000 workers as of January 2026.

What does Nike manufacture in Vietnam?

All three pillars of Nike’s product range are produced in Vietnam: footwear, apparel, and equipment. This includes both Converse and Nike branded products.

In the fiscal year ending May 2025, Nike reported US$46.3 billion in revenue, a 10 percent decline from the previous year. Footwear generated the largest share with US$29.5 billion, a 12 percent decrease, while clothing products accounted for US$13 billion, a 6% decline.

In the same period, Vietnam accounted for 51 percent of Nike’s total footwear output, up slightly from 50 percent a year earlier, while Indonesia and China followed with 28 and 17 percent, respectively.

In the apparel segment, Vietnam produced 31 percent of Nike’s clothing products (up from 28 percent last year), surpassing China and Cambodia, which each contributed 15 percent.

How many Nike factories are there in Vietnam?

Facilitating seamless market entry and global expansion

As of January 2026, Nike had 180 factories in Vietnam, 142 of which produce Finished goods and 38 provide materials.

Nike’s supplier network in Vietnam is concentrated in the country’s main export manufacturing corridors, reflecting the broader geography of Vietnam’s industrial development. Supplier locations align closely with regions offering mature industrial parks, strong logistics connectivity, and established labor pools.

Southern manufacturing corridor

The largest concentration of Nike suppliers is located in the southern industrial region centered on Ho Chi Minh City. Following the proposed provincial restructuring, the expanded metropolitan unit incorporates Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau, forming Vietnam’s largest manufacturing and export cluster.

Key characteristics of this region include:

A dense network of footwear and apparel factories;
Extensive industrial park infrastructure; and
Access to major export gateways, including the Cai Mep–Thi Vai deep-water port system.

A second major hub lies in Dong Nai, which also incorporates Binh Phuoc under the merger plan. The province has long served as a core base for large-scale footwear manufacturing due to its proximity to Ho Chi Minh City’s ports and established industrial zones.

Meanwhile, Tay Ninh, which merges with Long An, is emerging as a satellite production zone as manufacturers expand into areas offering lower land costs and new industrial park capacity.

Northern production clusters

In northern Vietnam, suppliers are concentrated across the Red River Delta industrial corridor.

Major clusters are located in:

Hai Phong, which merges with Hai Duong, benefiting from deep-water port infrastructure;
Bac Ninh, which absorbs Bac Giang; and
Hung Yen, which merges with Thai Binh.

These provinces sit along the industrial corridor connecting Hanoi with Hai Phong’s port system and host numerous export-oriented garment and footwear factories.

Central and Mekong Delta nodes

Smaller supplier clusters are distributed across central and Mekong Delta provinces.

These include:

Da Nang, following its merger with Quang Nam;
Binh Dinh, a longstanding footwear manufacturing base; and
Mekong Delta production centers such as Can Tho, Vinh Long, and An Giang.

While these locations host fewer suppliers compared to the northern and southern industrial belts, they provide additional capacity for garment and footwear production.

Following Vietnam’s provincial restructuring, Ho Chi Minh City has expanded to incorporate Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau, creating a significantly larger economic and logistics hub in southern Vietnam. The integration of manufacturing hubs with deep-water port infrastructure is expected to strengthen southern Vietnam’s role in Nike’s global supply chains.

Southern Vietnam has been a textile and garment hub for decades and now boasts a relatively high-skilled workforce in garment manufacturing. This low-cost labor can produce high-value when managed and utilized correctly.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s biggest city, is also located in the south. This is Vietnam’s biggest population center and has the full gamut of amenities of any big city in the world. Workers from Ho Chi Minh City can have a high quality of life within its borders while also commuting to factories outside of the metropolis in the surrounding provinces – it’s common for many companies to bus their employees into and out of the city.

Vietnam-Nike ongoing relationship

Over almost two decades, Nike and Vietnam have become inextricably linked. Vietnam is now a key manufacturing hub for Nike goods, with about 500,000 workers employed by factories supplying the sportswear giant.

It has also provided training and experience for countless thousands of Vietnamese workers. This has created an apparel manufacturing workforce well-familiar with the industry and the work, which may pay dividends for foreign brands in the garment and textile industry that wish to start manufacturing in Southeast Asia.

At the same time, Nike has been able to lower production costs and provide value for its consumer base.

This mutually beneficial relationship has, in recent years, moved from strength to strength. As these two entities continue to grow together, that relationship can only grow stronger.
